Starving

She gorged herself
on attention
and feasted on buttery compliments
covered in sugar

She mistook it for love
But it was poison

I look at her big cow eyes
and know that she has no idea
the slaughter is coming

I cannot tell her
No one can
She rejects anything as clean
as the raw, naked truth

She wants the sugar
It tastes so good
Changing the chemistry in her brain

She gets heavy and slow from all the
adulation that she needs more and more of

But she is always, always
starving
